There is only one Rambla, but the different sections have had different names and give us a clue to what there is or used to be: Rambla de Canaletes, dels Estudis, de les Flors, dels Caputxins, de Santa Mònica and finally La Rambla de Mar. For this reason, we also call it Las Ramblas. The name Rambla comes from the Arabic Ram·la: sandy spot formed by the waters. Thus, La Rambla is a torrent but now, instead of water, it channels 78 million people every year!
